A drinkable balm, an olfactory imprint of the scents of light vanilla that have been forever etched into the perfumer’s memory. The memory of a fabulous drink created by a young Madagascan woman and reinterpreted here as a lush fragrance. A vanilla balm, the succulent pulp of a plump, ripe pod, sliced open to release its fragrant black seeds, which unfolds in Madagascar through three natural extracts: vanilla tincture, CO2 extract, and absolute. From the top note to the base note, these rich raw materials unfold balsamic, animalic aromas reminiscent of the pod’s richness, enriched with notes of wood, leather, hay, and tobacco. To stay true to this recipe of vanilla pods steeped in rum, Marc-Antoine Corticchiato drew upon the lush palette of the great island. Peppercorns, cloves, and cinnamon sticks blend with the animalic depth of cocoa beans. A ray of milky white in this amber-colored elixir: freshly grated coconut flesh underscores the creamy texture. The recipe from Madagascar is particularly rich in balms, oils, and resins and requires artisanal expertise for its production—a skill that has nearly disappeared today.
